Single Vehicle Fatal Crash In Porter County

Thursday evening at approximately 6:13 PM, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the area of 945 N 200 W (Liberty Township). Complainant advised the vehicle struck a tree and may have rolled.

Responding Officers located the vehicle in the middle of the roadway and occupied by a male driver, no other passengers were in the vehicle. All airbags had deployed and the vehicle had major damage. The male was conscious / alert and was speaking with Officers on scene.

Liberty Township Firefighters had entered into vehicle to stabilize the driver who was trapped behind the steering wheel and driver seat unable to move freely, according to LTFD. Multiple air bags were deployed as a result of the crash. The driver door and seat belt were removed by force with extrication tools while the driver was being tended to by medics on scene. Once the door was removed and firefighters were able to see inside better to assess the situation, firefighters discovered that one foot from the driver was punched through the floorboard. The driver was transported with life-threatening injuries to Northwest Health Hospital where an air ambulance was dispatched to transport to a trauma center in Chicago.

Initial investigation shows, the 2010 Honda passenger vehicle was traveling southbound on 200 W in the area of 950 N. The car for an unknown reason left the roadway south of the railroad tracks in the area and struck a tree on the east side of the road.

Later that evening the Porter County Sheriff’s Office was informed the male had unfortunately passed away.
