Calumet Fisheries Caught On Fire Tuesday
An icon of Chicago, Calumet Fisheries, started on fire Tuesday afternoon, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
A STILL AND BOX ALARM was called for 3259 East 95th Street with fire in the rear roof area shortly after 1 PM. Crews went to a defensive mode around 1:30 PM because of the fire.
At 2 PM the Still and Box Alarm was struck out with no injuries reported. An investigation is underway for the cause.
Damage is extensive, according to a media release by Chicago Fire. The fire was in a large void in an upper area, CFD said.
“We have suffered a fire on our roof area and will be temporarily closed till we can access all the damage and start our repairs,” Calumet Fisheries posted. “We are thankful no customers or employees were hurt. We wish you a happy thanksgiving and will do our best to open as soon as possible. Thank you all for the great support you have sent us in these trying times.”
The business had been closed earlier in the month for failing a city health inspection but has since been reopened last Saturday after correcting the issues. The restaurant has been serving seafood since 1928 and family owned since 1948.
UPDATE – The cause of the fire at Calumet
Fisheries was ruled accidental due to an electrical issue, according to CFD Office of Fire Investigation.
