On October 28, 2023 at approximately 8 PM, Schererville Police were dispatched to a reported disturbance in the 5800 block of Burr Ridge Cir., according to a charging affidavit. SouthCom dispatch advised officers enroute the reporting party was screaming, “someone was inside the house.”
Officers enroute to the disturbance near Burr & 83rd Pl witnessed a silver SUV approaching them at a high rate of speed and failing to yield to the lights and sirens. The SUV then passed the officer right before striking the yielding vehicles from behind at a high rate of speed. The impact forced the yielding vehicle into another stopped car that was waiting for the police car to pass.
The Schererville Officer immediately turned around to render aid to find 5 severely injured people, two of which were small children. 4 of the people in the vehicle that were struck suffered serious injuries that included a 1-year-old with severe brain bleeding & broken ribs, a 4 year old with leg soreness, a woman with a shattered humerus bone, broken wrist and concussion, and a man suffering from severe body bruising.

The woman told officers she called 911 because her sister was being killed and she needed to save her. Meanwhile back up officers at the original call determined nobody was home. The woman was also found to have a suspended license though Indiana along with numerous driving while suspended infractions over the last 5 years according to court records.
It was later determined after Crash Reconstruction and search warrants that the woman was driving 83 MPH seconds before the impact. The woman slammed on the brakes right before impacting the yielding cars, according to data retrieved from her car.
