Indy Man Attacks Patrons With Shovel In Cedar Lake Bar Wednesday

On February 14, 2024, the Cedar Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Town Club Tavern, located at 13111 Lake Shore Drive in Cedar Lake for a fight, according to Cedar Lake Police Chief William Fisher. Police were advised that a male was fighting with other patrons within the business.

Upon Officer’s arrival, it was learned that Timothy Berry, a 36-year-old male from Indianapolis, had entered the tavern and began to argue with the patrons, Fisher said. Berry was bragging to the patrons about his affiliation with the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club. While verballing arguing with the patrons, Berry picked up tavern stools, threw them, then grabbed the hair of one of the patrons pulling it out. Berry exited the tavern, then returned with a snow shovel, swinging it at the same patrons attempting to hit them.

Officers learned that the male fled from the business. As Berry fled, he left a tennis shoe and his debit card at the tavern. While searching for Berry, Officers located him at a residence in the 13000 block of Fulton Street. Officers attempted to have Berry exited the residence, but he refused. A juvenile then ran from the residence and to the Officers, who confirmed that Berry was the only person inside the residence.

Northwest Regional SWAT was notified of the subject and responded to the scene. Negotiators were able to speak with Berry who exited the residence without incident and was taken into custody. Berry was transported to the Lake County Jail, where he is being held pending charges. Mugshot is also pending formal charges.

Chief Fisher commended the efforts of Corporal Doug Machalk, Officer Alexander Powell, Officer Nick Enyeart, and the Northwest Regional SWAT Team for their quick response and actions taken to locate Berry and take him into custody.
