Fred Bastin Jr., 50, of Lake Station, also known as Fred Bastin II, is facing six felony child molesting charges involving two child victims under the age of 14.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the investigation began in September 2024 after one of the children disclosed alleged sexual abuse to a classmate. The allegations were reported to school officials, and investigators subsequently interviewed both children.

During separate forensic interviews, the children alleged Bastin, their mother’s boyfriend, had sexually abused them while their mother was working overnight. One child said the alleged abuse began when she was approximately 11 years old and continued for years. The second child also described multiple alleged incidents of sexual contact.

Bastin was interviewed by investigators and denied the allegations. He acknowledged the children’s mother worked overnight and that he was sometimes alone with the children during those hours.

According to court documents, evidence collected during the investigation was submitted to the Indiana State Laboratory.

Lodged in the Porter County Jail on September 2, 2026.
