The Hammond Police Department is investigating a crash involving a truck and a train, according to Hammond Police.
Preliminary information indicates the train was traveling eastbound near Henry Street when a truck drove through active railroad crossing gates despite warning lights and audible signals. The train struck the vehicle and came to a stop.
The truck driver sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and was transported to a Chicago-area hospital for treatment.
There were approximately 156 passengers on board the eastbound South Shore Train at the time of the incident. No injuries have been reported among train passengers, Hammond Police said..
The investigation remains ongoing.
