Lyft Driver Shot Sunday Morning In Attempted Robbery
On Sunday March 22nd, at approximately 5:18am, Hammond police were dispatched to 6300 Calumet Ave. in reference to a shooting, Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police told RNS.
Officers arrived and spoke with 56-year-old male from Illinois who stated he is a Lyft driver and picked up a rider in Chicago and drove him to a location in the 500 block of Lewis street in Hammond. The victim stated that the suspect got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at him in an attempted robbery, Kellogg stated. The victim attempted to drive away and the suspect fired one shot at him striking him in the shoulder. The victim received minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.
The suspect was described as a black male, age 27-34, approx. 110-160 pounds wearing a dark hoodie.
