Hammond CVS Pharmacy On Fire

Hammond Fire Department responded to a Structure Fire around 1:30pm Sunday at CVS at 6445 Calumet Ave in Hammond. Heavy smoke was visible when firefighters arrived. Damage could be seen from the street. We will update as information comes in.

Hammond Fire Chief Jeff Smith told RNS, most of the damage was on the outside of the store. CVS did have a broken window and minor smoke damage inside. The fire started in a trash can at the entrance to the store, Smith said. Witnesses on social media reported seeing a lady possibly start the fire, however Hammond Police told RNS, this is not an arson investigation or criminal matter and no one else was taken into custody.
