Brian J. Lindley, 51, of Hammond, is facing charges after police say he was found riding a stolen e-bike while intoxicated.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers with the Hammond Police Department were dispatched around 3:15 p.m. on April 28 to the 7000 block of Indianapolis Boulevard for a theft report. The victim told police he left his black Rad Power Bike with an orange basket in the parking lot without locking it before going inside a business. When he returned about 4:07 p.m., the bike was gone.
The victim reported the e-bike was valued at approximately $1,500 and said he did not see who took it.
While officers were taking the report, dispatch advised of a possibly impaired individual riding an e-bike near the area of 165th Street and Grand Avenue. Officers located a male, later identified as Lindley, riding an e-bike in the 3600 block of 169th Street. Police said the bike matched the description of the stolen e-bike.
Lindley was taken into custody and transported to the Hammond City Jail. During the booking process, officers reported locating an empty liquor bottle in his pocket. Police said Lindley had slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, soiled clothing, difficulty standing on his own, and was swaying from side to side.
Lodged in the Lake County Jail.
