Drunk Driver Arrested After Crash On 80/94
Monday morning at approximately 11:00 a.m., Indiana State Police Master Trooper Kevin Murphy responded to a traffic crash on I-80/94 near the 5.9 mile-marker, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield of the Indiana State Police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2004 BMW, driven by Andrius J. Svabas, 54, of Beverly Shores, Indiana, was traveling westbound when it rear ended a semi driven by Christopher Reese and owned by Transco Inc. out of Danville, Illinois. There were no reported injuries and no load loss from the trailer. Senior Trooper Potesta assisted with an Operating While Intoxicated Investigation after Trooper Murphy detected signs of impairment by Mr. Svabas. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Svabas was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
He was transported to Lake County Jail where he submitted to a certified chemical test, the results of that test were .16%. The legal limit in Indiana is .08%. He was transferred to jail staff without incident and faces the following preliminary charges:
- O.W.I. -Endangering: Class A Misdemeanor
- O.W.I. -B.A.C. of .15% or more: Class A Misdemeanor
- O.W.I. -Per Se: Class C Misdemeanor
