Hammond Police Capture Porters Tap Robber
Hammond police have arrested and charged a suspect in the December 25th armed robbery of Porter’s Tap located at 6405 Kennedy Ave, Lt. Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police said in a release Friday. Witnesses stated an Hispanic male entered the bar and pointed a handgun at the bartender demanding money. The bartender complied and the suspect fled the bar.
Police would like to thank the public for their assistance, Kellogg said. Several people observed the photo released and recognized the suspect. He has been identified as 50-year-old Daniel Gamez.
Because of these community efforts, police were able to remove a violent suspect from the street. He is in custody at the Lake County Jail and been charged with one count of level 5 robbery and one count of level 3 armed robbery.
