Adrienne Lyles, 59, of Gary, is facing a felony charge after police say she struck another woman in the head with a metal skillet during a fight inside a Gary apartment.

According to court documents, officers responded around 12:20 a.m. May 26 to an apartment in the 800 block of Massachusetts Street in reference to a fight.

Police said the complainant told officers his live-in girlfriend, Adrienne Lyles, and a female friend were inside the apartment fighting with skillets.

Court documents state the complainant told police Lyles had been drinking heavily and became confrontational after accusing the other woman of sleeping with him. Investigators said the complainant told police Lyles becomes belligerent when she drinks alcohol and that she initiated the physical altercation by attacking the woman first.

Officers reported observing blood pooled on the bedroom floor, disturbed furniture and clothing scattered around the apartment consistent with a struggle.

According to the affidavit, the victim told police she had been sitting and talking with others inside the apartment when Lyles suddenly stated, “bitch you fucking my man,” before aggressively approaching her and repeatedly striking her in the head and face with closed fists.

The victim told police the fight moved throughout the apartment and into the kitchen, where Lyles allegedly picked up a metal skillet and struck her on the top of the head, causing a laceration and significant bleeding.

Police reported the victim’s face was swollen and her hair was covered in blood. The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

Court documents state officers observed blood covering Lyles’ clothing when she was taken into custody. According to the affidavit, Lyles denied wrongdoing, but while being escorted outside allegedly stated, “yea I hit her she fu* with my man,” which investigators described as an admission to the assault.
