Indiana State Police are investigating an apparent expressway shooting that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Monday evening in Gary.
According to preliminary information, the shooting is believed to have taken place on the westbound exit ramp to Burr Street. The victim, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained gunshot wounds while stopped at the traffic light at the top of the Burr Street exit ramp. Troopers have closed the ramp while they process the scene and conduct their investigation.

Authorities say the victim, who had been shot, drove off the exit ramp and into the parking lot of the Hard Rock Casino, where they called for help. The victim’s Jeep sustained extensive gunfire damage, with bullet holes visible throughout the vehicle, including the windshield.

Investigators do not believe this was a random act. Preliminary information indicates the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that began on I‑80 westbound, as the vehicles were exiting onto Burr St.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the suspect vehicle is urged to contact the Indiana State Police at 219‑696‑6242.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
