Luis Trevino Sr., 46, of South Bend, has been charged with dealing in cocaine, a Level 2 felony, after police allegedly discovered approximately two kilograms of cocaine during a traffic stop in LaPorte County on June 9.
According to court documents, investigators received information that a vehicle driven by Trevino was traveling to the Chicago area to obtain narcotics. Officers monitored the vehicle and later conducted a traffic stop west of the intersection of U.S. 20 and State Road 39 in LaPorte County.
Court records state a police K-9 alerted on the vehicle, leading officers to search it. During the search, authorities allegedly recovered two kilos of suspected cocaine, $10,514 in cash, and multiple cell phones. The suspected cocaine later tested positive for cocaine using a drug detection device, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said Trevino was advised of his rights and agreed to speak with police. According to the affidavit, he told investigators that everything found inside the vehicle belonged to him and that the two brick-like packages were “blow” and “coke,” which officers identified as street terms for cocaine. He also allegedly stated that a woman traveling with him was unaware of the narcotics and believed they were going to Blue Chip Casino and to purchase a vehicle.
Court documents state Trevino declined to tell investigators where he obtained the cocaine or how much he paid for it. He also allegedly told officers that he was on federal parole and performed labor jobs for cash.
Lodged in the Laporte County Jail.
