Burgos In Custody After Gary Homicide
On September 02, 2021 at approximately 2:30 PM Investigators from the Chicago Police Department took Orlando Burgos into custody without incident, according to Commander Jack Hamady of The Gary Police Department. Burgos was wanted for a parole violation out of Illinois. Orlando Burgos was transported to Chicago Police District 1 Headquarters and then immediately transferred to Statesville Correctional Facility.
The Gary Police Violent Crimes Division and Lake County Metro Homicide were searching for Burgos who was a person of interest in the death of Sheri Richardson. Sheri Richardson was discovered on August 19, 2021 outside her trailer unconscious and battered, Hamady stated. Richardson succumbed to her injuries on August 24, 2021.
Sheri Richardson’s vehicle is still missing and if anyone has information on her vehicle, please call the Gary Police Department. Richardson had just purchased the vehicle and had not registered the vehicle. The vehicle is described as a newer silver two door convertible with a black top. It is unknown what dealership Richardson purchased the vehicle from.
The Gary Police Department and Lake County Metro Homicide Unit are working with the Lake County Prosecutors Office in securing charges on Orlando Burgos for the murder of Sheri Richardson.
