Chicago Man Arrested After Hobart Carjacking

On August 3, 2021 at approximately 10:06 AM on the 2900 block East 79th Avenue a victim reported that two male subjects approached her while one of the suspect’s pointed a handgun at her. The two suspects then entered her vehicle and fled the scene, according to Hobart Police Captain James Gonzales.

The victim advised Officers that her vehicle was equipped tracking capabilities, so she was able to provide the Officers with accurate location information. The victim advised Officers that the vehicle was at 47th & Broadway and the Officers on scene communicated the location of the vehicle to assisting Hobart Officers. 

As Hobart Officers and the Lake County Aviation unit arrived in the area, a male subject noticed Hobart Officers approaching his location and he exited the front driver’s side of the vehicle and fled west on foot. The Lake County Aviation unit was able to track the suspect’s movement and Hobart Officers were able to take the suspect in custody. 

A second male subject was taken into custody approximately 1 block away from where the vehicle was located, it is unknown at this time if the subject was involved with the carjacking, due to another separate incident involving a battery occurring in the same area, Gonzales said.

The suspect who fled from the driver’s side of the vehicle has been tentatively identified as a 25-year-old male with an address listed in Chicago on the 8100 block of Kenwood Avenue in an apartment building. He is being held at the Lake County Jail pending charges at the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. He tentatively faces charges of Armed Robbery, Criminal Confinement and Resisting Law Enforcement.

On August 5, 2021, the suspect, Jwan Farley, 25 years old from Chicago was charged through the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office with the following offenses:
Count I: Armed Robbery Level 3 Felony
Count II: Auto theft Level 6 Felony Count III: Resisting Law Enforcement Class A Misdemeanor
