One Year Old Shot In Gary Monday

Around 1 PM Monday two people were shot one of which is a 1-year-old while in their back yard near 25th & Harrison, according to Lt. Thomas Pawlak of The Gary Police.

Gary Police say a 19-year-old family member was watching a group of kids play in the yard when a group of suspects opened fire on them from a nearby alley. Upon arrival officers were met by a female holding a 1-year-old male child who had been struck by gunfire. An officer immediately took mother and child towards the hospital until they were intercepted by an ambulance and care was transferred over. Police blocked nearby intersections so the ambulance could arrive quicker. The 19-year-old male was also struck by gunfire and was taken to the hospital by private car.  The child was airlifted to Comer’s Children’s Hospital shortly after arriving at Methodist. Both victims are in serious condition at this time.

No other information was immediately available. If anyone has any information on this shooting please contact Gary Police Detective Doug Drummond at 219-881-1210 or The Gary Police Tip Line at 866-CRIME-GP.
