Crown Point Man Charged After Shot Fired & Crash

Around 6:48 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, Crown Point Police responded to the 11000 block of Tennessee Street in Edgewater for a vehicle crash with shots fired, according to Crown Point Police.

A witness told police he observed a black SUV drive into the woods near Vermont Circle and East 111th Place. After, two men exited the vehicle and began fighting on the ground before one of the men brandished a handgun and fired a shot. Neither a weapon, nor shell casings were found at the scene.

After a shot was fired, one of the males reentered the vehicle and fled the scene. The other male fled on foot.

Officers recovered the black SUV involved in the incident. The driver was later identified as Nicholas Tucker, 18, of Crown Point. Tucker was transported to Franciscan Health Crown Point to be checked for injuries relating to the accident. He is facing a misdemeanor charge of failure of duty for leaving the scene.

The other suspect, who witnesses described as a young white male wearing a gray hoodie and light blue jeans, remains at large.

Witnesses said they had not seen the man before and reported he was pacing back and forth while talking on the phone in the neighborhood park. Further investigation revealed Tucker met with the white male to sell him a pair of tennis shoes. When the male entered Tucker’s vehicle, a struggle ensued, causing the vehicle to crash. A physical altercation between the two men followed and a handgun was discharged.
