Deadly Munster Home Fire Monday

Around 11:16 AM, Monday, the Munster Fire Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Cornwallis in the Cobblestone subdivision for a structure fire.

On arrival crews were met with flames and heavy smoke coming from a townhome. Dispatch was also advising of possible entrapment. A mutual aid box alarm was issued for neighboring departments to be enroute to assist.

A local delivery driver was first to come across the townhome in flames and was met by a resident who stated a child was still inside. The driver entered the home numerous times with the parent but the thick smoke was too heavy along with flames spreading quickly to get any further inside the home. The parent was later transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries. At this time it is believed the child did not make it out. The Lake County Coroner has since been dispatched to the scene.

The Munster Fire Department was not immediately available for a statement.
