Dive Teams & K-9’s Continue Water Search Monday For 12 Year Old

Today multiple search teams continued to work an area of The Little Calumet River for 12-year-old Kyrin Carter who came up missing Saturday afternoon from the Best Western on 179th in Hammond.

Porter County Search & Rescue along with NWI Search & Recovery Dogs and Hammond Police searched the Little Calumet River area along with nearby Oxbow Park through the day Monday. The specialized K-9’s that were out today are able to pick up a scent that is underwater or nearby shorelines while they ride in boats up and down the river.

These K-9’s brought out today hit on an area a few blocks west from the Best Western which prompted a County Dive Team call out around 4 PM. Multiple departments including Cedar Lake, Crown Point, Hobart, Merrillville and Hammond responded with drones, divers, and SONAR to search. The divers grid searched the area the dogs hit on but ended with no results after 4 hours of operations.

Police say they will continue to search tomorrow along with outside agencies assisting. Police are asking residents near this area to continue to look in their yards, pools, and structures outside for Kyrin. Any information regarding Kyrin can be called in to 911.
