Driver Of SUV Drives Through Munster Gyros
A vehicle accident at the corner of Ridgeway and Calumet sent one car fully into the Restaurant Munster Gyros. At this time we know multiple people are being transported with injuries but unknown to the extent of them. Northbound Calumet is closed at Ridge Road as emergency crews work this scene.
Ed Nightingale a customer inside the restaurant said he was ordering food when he saw the police try to pull over a vehicle without head lights on across Calumet. The then car took off hit Miss Print and ended up nearly missing him and other patrons when it collided with the restaurant. We will have an update from Munster Officials soon.
UPDATE– On Wednesday at approximately 6:00pm, Munster Officers approached a silver colored Ford SUV that was stopped facing southbound in the 8200 block of Calumet Ave., Lt. John Peirick of the Munster Police said in a release. The driver, who remains unidentified at this point, was not initially alert, as the Officers attempted to get his attention he became alert and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The vehicle first hit the building at 8244 Calumet Ave, Miss Print, causing damage to the front. It then continued across Calumet striking the side of 8307 Calumet Avenue, Munster Gyros. The vehicle came to rest inside the building and caused major damage.
Three people inside the restaurant were injured and transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries, Peirick stated.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
