SUV Collides With Two Businesses Before Coming To A Stop Inside Munster Gyros

On Wednesday, March 4 at approximately 6:00pm, Munster Officers approached a silver colored Ford SUV that was stopped facing southbound in the 8200 block of Calumet Ave, Lt. John Peirick of The Munster Police said. The driver, unidentified at this point, was not initially alert, as the Officers attempted to get his attention he became alert and accelerated at a high rate of speed, Peirick said.  The vehicle first hit the building at 8244 Calumet Ave, Miss Print, causing damage to the front.  It then continued across Calumet striking the side of 8307 Calumet Avenue, Munster Gyros.  The vehicle came to rest inside the building and caused major damage.  Ed Nightingale a customer ordering food inside Munster Gyros said he was watching police stop this vehicle outside near Miss Print without its lights on when the vehicle came speeding into the restaurant.

Three people inside the restaurant were injured and transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries, Peirick stated.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
