Fatal Single Vehicle Crash In Hammond Thursday
On Thursday, August 25, 2022 at approximately 2:20 PM, Hammond Police were dispatched to the 7500 block of Jackson Avenue in reference to an accident, according to Hammond Police.
Upon arrival officers located a 2013 Toyota Camry that had struck a fence and bush coming to rest near the alley and utility pole. Witnesses stated that the vehicle veered off of the roadway and struck the fence with no other vehicles involved.
Hammond Police, Fire, and EMA blocked a route from the scene to Franciscan Hammond to escort the female who was in critical condition to a waiting medical helicopter.
The driver tragically passed before arriving and now has been identified as Larissa Peterson, 33, of Hammond. The Lake County Coroner added the cause of death as blunt force trauma.
A two year old child was uninjured in the vehicle and Lake County Child Protective Services took custody of the child.
