A maintenance employee noticed three very young juveniles alone inside one of the apartments. The worker began to tell police that he knocked several times and got no answer at the door. The worker used his keys to gain access inside the apartment. Once the worker was inside, he noticed a juvenile sleeping in his bed with a plastic gate blocking entry into the room. After peaking his head in, he then noticed two juveniles in this room. The maintenance employee then opened the door to the master bedroom and saw a baby sleeping in a crib with a bottle propped up using blankets. The man decided to call his manager who then proceeded to call their corporate office. After alittle over an hour, the man was then told to contact Portage Police.

When officers arrived, they located birth certificates of the children on the kitchen table along with a phone number for the mother’s place of work. After successfully contacting the mother, they were told that her husband, Trevon Robinson, was supposed to be watching the children. She told police she would leave work to come take custody of the kids.

Shortly after, the mother and Mr. Robinson arrive back to the apartment. Mr. Robinson explained that he was only gone for thirty minutes to get groceries at Walmart. When he was asked why he couldn’t take the children with him, he stated, “It’s difficult to get groceries and watch all the children.”

Trevon explained that he received a phone call from the children’s mother saying she needed a ride home from work and he was unaware of the police being at the apartment. After speaking more with the mother, she then tells police that Trevon was never at Walmart and possibly was at a cell phone store near Us Hwy 6 and Countyline Line Road. She explains that she didn’t mention anything about the police to him during that time because she was afraid he would locked up and she would have no way home from her job in Gary. Officers were at this location for approximately an hour and a half waiting for Trevon Robinson to return.

Trevon Robinson was taken into custody and charged with:

Neglect of a dependent (LVL-6) x3
