Gary Police Chief Resigns
Mayor Jerome A. Prince today announced he has accepted the resignation of former Gary Police Chief Col. Richard Ligon.
Sgt. Brian Evans, formerly deputy chief of the Gary Police Department, has been named Interim Police Chief. Sgt. Michael Jackson has been named deputy police chief.
“Col. Ligon has been an admirable public servant on many levels,” Mayor Prince said. “I thank him for decades of service and for leading our police department in the opening months of my administration, and I wish him and his family the very best.”
Mayor Prince said he is looking to Interim Chief Evans and Deputy Chief Jackson to take the Gary Police Department in a new direction, including developing a stronger focus on community-police relations.
Interim Chief Evans has 26 years of service on the Gary Police Department, and Deputy Chief Jackson has 29 years of service.
Mayor Prince said he will begin a search process for the new police chief shortly.
