Gary Police Pursue Stolen BMW While Victim Makes Theft Report

Gary Police pursue a stolen gray BMW Thursday morning around 10 AM that was taken overnight in Hobart.

Around 9:30 AM a Hobart man called 911 to report his BMW stolen from the 3800 block of Alabama, according to Hobart Police Captain James Gonzales. The victim told police that he came home the previous evening at approximately 10:30 PM and that was the last time he saw the vehicle, furthermore, he told the officer that the vehicle was unlocked and the keys were left inside the vehicle. While police were taking the report with the victim dispatch advised the Hobart Officer that Gary Officers were pursuing the BMW matching the description the victim gave on the phone.

The pursuit started near 25th & Virginia and ended with the stolen BMW catching fire during the chase near 43rd & Jefferson in a leaf filled yard. The suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of a Gary K9.

The suspect is also believed to have entered numerous cars and garages in the area of 38th & Alabama before stealing this BMW, according to a RNS tip.

Lake Station Police & Hobart Police assisted Gary. Gary Officers will continue to handle the investigation. The Hobart Police Department thanked The Gary Police Department for their assistance with the speedy recovery of the vehicle and the on-going investigation into this case.
