Griffith Business Employees Engage Armed Robber Monday
At approximately 3:05 PM on Monday, June 6, 2022, officers of the Griffith Police Department responded to the Duke of Oil in the 800 block of East Ridge Road after receiving reports of an attempted robbery with a single shot being fired with no injuries and no property taken, according to Griffith Police.
The suspect was described as an African American male wearing a black colored winter coat, ski mask, and a glove on one of his hands, police stated.
As the suspect attempted to enter the store, employees physically engaged the suspect at which time the suspect removed a handgun from his pocket and fired it into the floor. Employees let the suspect go and he then ran away from the scene.
Upon officer’s arrival, with the assistance of Highland and Munster Police Departments, a perimeter was established and a search for the suspect, who was reported to have ran north from the business, began.
No one is in custody currently, police said.
