Griffith Fire Department Names Second Honorary Firefighter In Their History

10 year old Carter Ray who was diagnosed this summer with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, was named an Honorary Firefighter with the Griffith Fire Department this afternoon in a small ceremony, according to The Griffith Fire Department. Carter is only the second civilian to recieve this distinction in the departments 100 year history. The award and designation was presented by Fire Chief Roy Schoon.

Carter’s cousin is Blake Loudenber, the young man that so many in our area followed during his battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease, and his long awaited second kidney transplant on March 14, 2013, which happened to be World Kindey Day. Shortly after Blake’s transplant, he was named an Honorary Firefighter, the first civilian to recieve this honor, Fire Officials said Saturday. Blake, now 16 is a huge support to his young cousin Carter as he also fights his own battle.

The Griffith Fire Department was joined by Eliezer Hernandez, who runs the organization My Favorite Superhero. Eliezer was there to present a few superhero gifts to Carter.
