Hammond Elementary School Locked Down After Threat

Tuesday afternoon, Morton Elementary in Hammond received a profane phone call claiming someone within the building had a weapon, according to The School City of Hammond.

Security & Hammond Police Department were immediately dispatched, and out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown.

After an extensive sweep by police of the school building, no weapons were found, and the lockdown was lifted, SCH stated.

“The reality is that whenever situations such as what happened outside of Hammond Central High School last Friday occur, there is often an increase of false or prank reporting. As a district, we must take each threat seriously, however unfounded,” the school releases in a statement Tuesday night online.

Police encourage anyone aware of false or prank reporting to contact the Hammond Police Department at (219) 852-6490.
