Hammond Police Investigating Homicide
On Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at approximately 5:00 PM, Hammond Police responded to the 500 block of Lewis Street in reference to shots fired, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg.
Upon arrival, officers located a victim sitting in a vehicle with a gunshot wound. The 26-year-old victim was deceased on scene, Kellogg said. Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident.
The victim has been identified by The Lake County Coroner as Jaylen Hunter, 26, of Jacksonville, Florida.
