Hammond Vietnam Vet Discharged After Recovering From COVID-19

Today 73 year old Vietnam Veteran Armando Blanco Sr. of Hammond was discharged from Community Hospital in Munster where he spent the last 56 days due to Coronavirus.

Mr. Blanco Sr. was admitted to the ICU at Community on March 27th and diagnosed March 29th with Coronavirus. The following day, his wife Carmen tested positive for Coronavirus. Because she had mild symptoms, she was able to self-isolate at home and has recovered.

Small American flags and signs bearing “You’re Our Hero” were waved by family and hospital staff as they watched Mr. Blanco emerg from the North Entrance doors at Munster Community. Because of current visitor restrictions at the hospital his family has not been able to physically see him until today when he was wheeled out on a stretcher by Superior EMS. Family tells RNS that he is heading to a rehabilitation facility to build up his strength before returning home.
