Highland Carjacking Involved Known Suspect To Victim
On July 8, 2021, at approximately 1:52 pm, Highland Police were dispatched to the alley behind the Sixer’s gas station (8317 Kennedy Avenue) for a reported carjacking, according to Commander John Banasiak.
On arrival of the officers, the victim (a 19 year old male from Highland) advised that his vehicle was just taken from him at gunpoint. The victim went on to say that he had agreed to meet a friend in the alley behind Sixer’s gas station to meet up and to then go and play basketball together. When the victim arrived and met his friend in the alley, two unknown males wearing ski masks suddenly appeared and one pointed a black handgun at the victim, Banasiak said. The two suspects then went through the victim’s pockets and took all of his belongings to include his car keys. The victim’s friend then rummaged through the victim’s bag and other items inside of his vehicle. One of the suspects then fled in the victim’s vehicle (a red 2014 Buick Lacrosse) driving northbound down the alley and then turned westbound on Grand Blvd. The victim’s friend and the other suspect then ran off on foot together northbound down the alley and then they went westbound on Grand Blvd. where the victim lost sight of them. The victim was not hurt in this incident.
Highland detectives have already identified the “friend” and charges are pending. The investigation is continuing regarding this isolated incident and in obtaining the identity of the two masked accomplices, Banasiak stated.
