House Fire In Griffith Claims One Life
Around 1:50pm Griffith Police & Fire were dispatched to the 800 block of N. Wheeler Ave for smoke showing at a home, according to Commander Keith Martin of the Griffith Police Department. On arrival of the fire department they found smoke in the home and the fire was struck within about 5 minutes, Martin stated. During a primary search firefighters found one victim who was deceased in the home. No foul play is suspected at this time but the cause of the fire is under investigation. The name of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification of family.
Griffith Fire Department was assisted by Highland Fire, Merrillville Fire, Gary Fire, Schererville Fire, Griffith VEST, and Superior Ambulance. The State Fire Marshall is currently on scene investigating.
