Illinois Man Shot In Griffith

Griffith police were dispatched to a call of shots fired at around 10:20PM on January 5, 2021, according to Commander Keith Martin of The Griffith Police.

A witness that lives in the area said they were watching tv when they heard gunshots and saw muzzle flashes near their front yard. On further inspection they saw a man in their front yard with an apparent gun shot wound and another man across the street with injuries. The resident explained, this is a very quiet street and did not recognize the men found out front.

Upon arrival by police to the area of the 1000 block of N Wheeler St, officers found one man conscious, breathing, and alert, who had been shot multiple times.  The man was identified as an Illinois man in his late 20’s and was currently wearing an ankle monitoring device of which was wrapped in tin foil at the time of the shooting, Martin said.  Another man also being listed in police records as last known to be living in Illinois but claiming to live in Gary, IN, was also at the scene with superficial abrasions to his face.  Both subjects were transported to Munster Community Hospital for treatment.

Police processed the scene and recovered numerous shell casings from two different caliber handgun rounds.     

One subject questioned at the scene, 19 year old Romell Davis of Hammond, IN, was taken into custody during the investigation for an outstanding warrant but his involvement in the incident is still under investigation.  Both subjects who were transported to the hospital also have outstanding arrest warrants and will be taken into custody upon their release from medical care.

Officers and Police K-9 units checked the area but no suspects could be located but the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
