Lake County Traffic Safety Checkpoint Results From Friday
On Friday, April 23rd, The Lake County Traffic Safety Partnership conducted a Sobriety Checkpoint in Hobart. The partnership consists of multiple Lake County agencies coming together to discourage intoxicated driving. This partnership is made possible from multiple grants at the state level. (Video from the checkpoint linked on the bottom.)
The purpose of the checkpoint is not only to curb drunk drivers but also enforce any other noticeable violations by checkpoint officers which could include plate issues, equipment issues, drugs, and warrants. During the time frame the checkpoint was active there were 0 OWI collisions in Lake County. This checkpoint was also ongoing while other agencies performed saturation patrols in communities.
The checkpoint only delayed most drivers for a few minutes and they were on the way. Many people that were stopped expressed thanks while stating they were happy to see law enforcement taking a proactive approach before a crash occurred.
