Lake Station Fire Leaves Six Displaced
At 8:29pm Sunday night the Lake Station Fire Department was dispatched to 3231 35th Ave. for a structure fire, according to Lake Station Fire Chief Chuck Fazekas. Upon arrival crews were met with heavy smoke and flames showing. Reports on the scene were given by a witness that several people were still inside the structure, Fazekas told RNS. Lake Station ambulance personnel were able to get to the back of the structure and assist the residents out of the home unharmed. The residents were checked by medics and all were fine. The fire was struck and units are on scene working on a cause of the fire as of 10pm. One Hobart Firefighter was seen by the medics for a heat related issue but was released after being checked, Fazekas stated. There were no other injuries to citizens or firefighters. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A total of three adults and three children are displaced at this time due to this fire. Assisting Lake Station Fire Department with Mutual Aid was The Hobart Fire Department and The New Chicago Fire Department. A reminder to the public Fazekas states is, “Please check your smoke detectors for proper operation.”
