Man Wanted For Shooting & Eluding Multiple Departments This Week Captured
Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Agents arrested Michael Caraway, an 18 year old from Chicago, IL, on Friday, April 24, 2020.
On April 24, 2020, at approximately 12:56 a.m., ISP District Chicago was called to assist the Chicago Police Department in a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 94 southbound. ISP units became involved in the pursuit on Interstate 94 southbound near 75th Street. The pursuit ended after the vehicle exited Interstate 94 southbound onto Sibley Boulevard, and crashed about one block east of the Interstate 94 interchange in Calumet City. Immediately after the crash, the driver of the vehicle, Caraway, fled the scene on foot. Caraway was apprehended a short time later by ISP District Chicago Troopers. After the apprehension, Caraway was transported to the Calumet City Police Department where he was questioned by Chicago Heights Police detectives as a suspect in an unrelated homicide. Two loaded firearms were located within the vehicle driven by Caraway at the time of this incident.
On April 24, 2020, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Armed Violence (Class X Felony), two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon (Class 4 Felony), one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Class 4 Felony), and one count of Defacement of a Firearm (Class 3 Felony) against Caraway relating to the pursuit. Caraway’s bond was set by the Court at $1,000,000, 10% to apply, and he is being held at the Cook County Jail.
This vehicle was involved with a pursuit in Munster earlier this week on Wednesday that led Munster Police down 394 before they terminated the pursuit. Caraway also fled from 4 other departments this week in Illinois and Indiana.
