Motorcyclist Death In St. John Under Investigation

On Sunday April 26, 2020 at about 1:10 pm, St. John Police were dispatched to a personal injury motorcycle accident at Calumet Ave. and Greystone Drive, according to St. John Police Spokesman Roger Patz. When officers arrived they observed single victim laying the grass southeast of the intersection. A witness who was travelling behind the motorcycle stopped to render aid and performed CPR until officers arrived on scene, Patz told RNS. Officers continued CPR on the male victim until St. John paramedics arrived on scene. Unfortunately there were no signs of life and the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene, Patz stated.

The Lake County Police Accident Reconstruction Team responded to investigate the accident. A preliminary report from witnesses say that the motorcycle with a single rider crossed lanes on Calumet Ave and lost control after striking a curb, police said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. A possible health condition may have contributed to the incident.

The Lake County Coroner has not released the name of the victim but police stated the driver was a 61 year old male.
