Merrillville Carjackers In Custody In Illinois
On Friday 01/07/2022 at approximately 6:36PM, Merrillville Police Officers responded to a carjacking call at 8101 Broadway (House of Kobe), according to Assistant Chief Kosta Nuses.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainants and determined they were victims of a carjacking. The victims told police that they were sitting in their vehicle in the parking lot of 8101 Broadway when they were approached by a subject. The subject, described as a black male in his twenties wearing a mask, pointed a handgun at them and ordered them out of the vehicle. As the victims exited, a second subject also joined and got into the vehicle. The suspects then fled in the stolen vehicle northbound onto Broadway.
At approximately 9:14 p.m., Illinois State Police (ISP) District Chicago officials joined the Chicago Police Department (CPD) in a pursuit of a gray 2018 Hyundai for suspected Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking. At Interstate 90 and Ogden Ave the suspect vehicle struck an ISP squad ending the vehicle pursuit. After a short foot chase, both suspects from the vehicle were taken into custody.
Illinois State Police (ISP) District Chicago assisted in the arrest of 2 male juveniles for Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking (Class X Felony, Illinois State Police said Saturday.
