MICHIGAN CITY MAN ARRESTED FOR VIOLATION OF NO TRAVEL ORDER AND OPERATING WHILE INTOXICATED

On Sunday, (04/26/2020) at approximately 11:43 AM, Deputy Austin Epple was traveling east on US 20, west of the SR 2 dogbone interchange.  It was at this time that a passenger vehicle, also traveling eastbound on US 20, passed Deputy Epple’s fully marked La Porte County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) police vehicle in excess of the posted speed limit.  While now traveling behind the vehicle, a computer check by Deputy Epple revealed the license plate was expired and the registered owner’s driver’s license was suspended.

Deputy Epple initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 6500 east block of SR 2.  The driver was identified as Wilbert BUREAU Jr. (61 YOA), the registered owner of the vehicle.  Soon after, Deputy Epple learned that BUREAU was a wanted person by the LCSO.  Deputy Justin Phillips arrived to assist and further investigation commenced roadside.

BUREAU was taken into custody and eventually transported to the La Porte County Jail (LCJ).  He was arrested for three counts of Operating While Intoxicated (Level 6 Felony-Prior, C-Misdemeanor X’2), Violation of No Travel Order, Executive Order 20-22 (B-Misdemeanor)and for the arrest warrant (Failure to Comply, Original Offense-Domestic Battery, Level 6 Felony).  BUREAU remains housed in the LCJ and is being held without bond.

Arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Citizens are encouraged to review and familiarize themselves with Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb’s Executive Order 20-22.  The order can be accessed via the following link: https://in.gov/gov/2384.htm.
