Multiple Arrests Made After Pursuit From Winfield Of Vehicle Break In Suspects

A police pursuit early Saturday morning lead to multiple arrests which originated near Winfield and ended on 80/94 just East of the Kennedy Ave exit Saturday morning around 1am.

Winfield Police & Lake County Units picked up on the vehicle after a Winfield resident witnessed a few suspects breaking into a neighbors vehicle on the outskirts of town which is actually unincorporated, according to Winfield Town Marshal Dan Ball. One on-duty Officer responded to the area and an off-duty Winfield K9 officer who resides in the area reported to the scene to begin tracking, Ball told RNS. A suspect vehicle was spotted and a pursuit began of a stolen Lexus out of Illinois.

Lake County Sheriff units engaged in the pursuit as well which picked up numerous assisting multiple agencies from the area as the pursuit went North on I-65. According to sources close to the investigation a Sheriff unit pitted the stolen Lexus into the wall on 80/94 just East of the Kennedy Ave exit. Multiple suspects bailed from the Lexus leading to a foot pursuit and perimeter search of the area near The Hammond Holiday Inn and Buffalo Wild Wings, according to witnesses. Multiple arrests were made after an extensive search of the area involving a call out of The Lake County Sheriff Helicopter and numerous K-9 officers from surrounding agencies. The Sheriffs vehicle had to be towed from the scene as well.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment Saturday morning.

Police believe these may be the same group of suspects that have been hitting numerous communities in South Lake County over the last few weeks with the latest being Friday morning when St. John Officers pursued a vehicle into Chicago that eluded police.
