Multiple People Shot & One Dead In Hammond

Breaking story coming out of Hammond as of 6:30pm, multiple people were shot at Michigan Ave & Columbia in front of a small tire shop.

Hammond police were dispatched to the area of Michigan and Columbia in reference to a shooting, Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police told RNS. Officers arrived and learned that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident happening somewhere in the area of Cline Avenue and Michigan. One male victim is deceased at this time, and another male has been flown to a Chicago hospital for treatment. Two other victims are at local hospitals receiving treatment for their wounds. There is no suspect information available at this time.

Update – Update – The Lake County Coroner has identified the deceased victim as Uriel Arambula, 25, of Hammond. Uriel and his brother were employees at The Auto Shop.

UPDATE 2 – Officers arrived and learned that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that took place near the 3800 block of Michigan Street, Lt. Steve Kellogg said. The involved vehicles followed each other to the parking lot at Michigan & Columbia at a small auto shop. A physical fight broke out between subjects that led to the shots fired, Kellogg said. A 25-year-old Hammond man, Uriel Arambula, died from gunshot wounds sustained at the scene. The other involved parties are a 28-year-old male, a 23-year-old male, and a 22-year-old male, all from Hammond. These subjects sustained gunshot wounds from rounds exchanged at the scene. These subjects are expected to recover from their injuries. All involved parties in this incident have been identified. The investigation is on-going and awaiting presentation of charges to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
