Munster Carjacking & Attempted Hammond Car Jacking Comes To An End Late Thursday
Around 5:20pm a customer at the Hammond BP at 169th & Hohman was held up by two black males wearing masks carrying possible AR-15 rifles attempting to carjack the customer. The suspects were in a Black Dodge Charger or Challenger. The victim fled from the offenders in their own vehicle but the suspects gave chase to them before firing at least one shot at the car, missing it. The victim drove to Calumet City and called 911 where a report was taken.
Around 5:39PM a Black Charger pulled into the Munster BP at Calumet & Ridge and held a lady at gun point successfully carjacking her White Durango. As in the Hammond incident minutes earlier, multiple witnesses outside the BP also saw two black males wearing masks in a Black Charger. The victim is ok and was NOT kidnapped contrary to social media posts.
Around midnight Friday an Illinois Police Helicopter was following a stolen White Durango on 80/94 into Indiana. Coincidentally a multi agency task force was blitzing the Munster the area at the time and went to 80/94 to intercept the stolen Durango believed to be from the Munster car jacking earlier. The pursuit went to Kennedy Ave and exited South before crashing into a squad car and then the ditch near Byway Brewery. Two suspects fled the vehicle leading police on a foot chase to a nearby wooded area behind the Hampton Inn. One suspect was apprehended immediately and the second about an hour later hiding in the woods near the Little Calumet River. Munster Police will be pursing possible federal charges.
