Munster Man Arrested For Torturing Animals

A Munster man was arrested Monday afternoon on a warrant in Gary after a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit near 15th & Hanley showed he was wanted after he allegedly tortured a lamb he stole from Buckley Homestead and shot two chickens with a BB Gun in front of his child in 2018.

Traffic Stop of the suspect

The court records allege Nikola Kutansky, 35, of Munster took video he posted on social media of him saying “Redrum” while cutting the lambs throat while it was still alive he recently stole. Two chickens were also taken from Buckley Homestead before he shot them with a BB gun in front of his child, the court records stated. Kutansky was charged with a Level 6 Felony of Torturing or Mutilating a vertebrate animal.

The animal torturing was brought to light by Conservation Officers after a three year investigation into a break-ins at Willow Slough Fish & Wildlife in Morocco. During the break-ins, multiple items were stolen, including DNR property signs, ammunition, and a taxidermy mount. Kutansky was charged with two felony counts of burglary and two felony counts of theft.  Kutansky’s home in Munster was raided by Conservation Police in November where police confiscated numerous stolen items. Kutansky pleaded not guilty at his hearing.
