Murder Charges Filed In Lansing Shooting In November
On November 24, 2019, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Lansing Police Department received several calls for shots fired in the parking lot of 2142 175th street. As officers responded, the Lansing Police Department received a call from the victims who fled the scene and pulled into the American Sales parking lot, according to Lt. Al Phillips of The Lansing Police Department. Officers then located two adult male victims that sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies. Both subjects were treated by Lansing Paramedics and transported to area hospitals. One of the victims was transported to Munster Community Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The second victim was transported to Franciscan Health Hammond where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Lansing Police Department, along with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, conducted an extensive investigation into the incident. Ultimately, an offender was identified, and an arrest warrant was approved by the Cook County States Attorney’s Office. On March 31, 2020, the Lansing Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, along with the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, served an arrest warrant on Tyrell Laws, age 23, of Hazel Crest. Mr. Laws was taken into custody and charged with 1st Degree Murder. Mr. Laws was ultimately transported to Markham Courthouse where he is being held without bond.
