Off Duty County Officer Allegedly Fled The Scene Of A Crash Saturday
At approximately 2:25 AM, Saturday, December 10, the Crown Point Police Department responded to a car versus utility pole crash in the 600 block of South Main Street, according to a press release Monday.
When Crown Point Officers arrived, they discovered a 2010 Chevy with extensive front-end damage. The Chevy struck a vehicle that was parked and unoccupied on South Main Street. The Chevy then continued southbound and struck a NIPSCO utility pole.
Officers were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle on scene. Officers later found the driver at his residence in Lowell, Indiana.
The suspected driver of the vehicle is employed as an officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Crown Point Police stated. The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.
Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr told RNS, “It has come to our attention that an off-duty Lake County Sheriff’s Department police officer was reportedly involved in a traffic accident over the weekend. Monday afternoon, the Crown Point Police Department notified us of a potential investigation of the incident.” ”We are in the process of reviewing any and all related information submitted to our department,” Martinez said.
UPDATE – Charges were filed against Ean James Hescher on 12/10/2022. Hescher was charged with two counts of Leaving The Scene of an Accident.
