One Dead Another In Critical Condition After Shooting

In the late afternoon hours of Saturday, April 25, Remington Police Department assisted by Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, White County Sheriff’s Department, and Wolcott Police Department, responded to a call at the Family Express at I-65 and U.S. 24 in Remington, Indiana.

Upon arrival, officers found a Chevrolet Impala occupied by two black males, both whom suffered gunshot injuries, according to Remington Police. Twenty-four-year-old Emmanuel Ampadu of Chicago, Illinois was pronounced dead at the scene. The second occupant of the vehicle was transported to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition and was identified as Jonathan Thomas, 25, of Chicago.

Investigation revealed that the initial incident occurred near NAPA on the west side of Remington. Witnesses indicated a silver in color Dodge vehicle with four black, male occupants headed west bound on Highway 24 was involved with this incident. ISP Troopers effectuated a traffic stop based upon this description and made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. All four subjects were then transported to the Jasper County Jail for further investigation and were identified as Isaiah Carver, 22, Dimari Jones, 22, Zavier Davidson, 19, and Derrick Mitchell, 21, all of Indianapolis, Indiana. All four persons are being held in the Jasper County Jail at this time.

Preliminary reports suggest that a transaction was arranged between the two groups of individuals who then met in Remington to exact the exchange.

Several warrants have been procured with the assistance of the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office to be executed which will result in additional information. Any and all charges are mere accusations and all people are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
