One Shot In Hammond At Earlier Food Giveaway Location

On August 29th, at approximately 9:35 PM, while on patrol near the 1100 block of Moss Street, a Hammond police officer heard several shots fired in the area, according to Lt. Steve Kellogg of The Hammond Police. Additional officers responded and located bullet casings in the area but no victims were present. Approximately 10 minutes later, a 35-year-old male from Hammond arrived at St. Margaret’s Hospital with a gun shot wound to the chest, Kellogg said. The male was transported to a Chicago hospital and his condition is unknown at this time. This was the location of an earlier Community Food / School / Clothing Supply Giveaway today. Tables with boxes of food were still setup along with a grill and coolers. It appeared there was still gathering unrelated at the scene when shots rang out. This shooting took place well after the event was over and was not affiliated with the giveaway, officials stated.

If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to call Hammond Police Detective Sgt. Tony Pinarski at 219-852-2983
