One Shot Outside Crown Point Bar Saturday

On July 18 , at 2:47am, Crown Point Police responded to the parking lot of Rival Sports Bar, located at 1910 N. Main St., in reference to a report of subjects fighting in the parking lot and shots being fired by an unknown person, according to Crown Point Police Chief Pete Land. As officers arrived at the scene, witnesses reported that a vehicle believed to be involved in the altercation had already left the area.

As part of their on-scene investigation, police attempted to locate any possible witnesses in addition to securing and processing the crime scene, Land stated. Police later learned that a 21-year-old Gary resident had been shot at some point during the altercation. He was taken to Broadway Methodist Hospital for treatment for a gun shot wound and at the time of this release was listed in stable condition, Land said.

Crown Point Police Detectives, along with the Indiana State Police Crime Lab, continue to investigate the incident. Police are asking for anyone with information on the shooting to contact Detective Mike Smulski at 663-2131, ext. 291 or e-mail msmulski@crownpoint.in.gov.
