Overnight Pursuit Leads Police To Chicago
At approximately 11:56 p.m. on 05/10/2021, a Lake County Sheriff’s Department police officer observed a Red Chevy sedan traveling at over 60 miles an hour in a posted 45 mile an hour zone near 93rd & Wicker Avenue in St. John, according to The Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
The officer conducted a traffic stop, but as he attempted to approach driver, the driver took off at a high rate of speed. The officer pursued the vehicle as it turned west onto U.S. 30 and continued to I-394 in Illinois. The vehicle headed north on 394 to I-94, then spun out as the driver attempted to exit onto 130th Street. Both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot, crossing traffic on 94. Near 130th & Doty, the suspects jumped into some bushes. Officers located the driver and placed him into custody. A St. John K-9 was deployed to track the other occupant, but that person remains at large.
The driver, identified as a 23-year-old from Dolton, IL, was taken into custody and held at the Cook County Jail, pending extradition to Lake County, IN. Criminal charges are pending at this time against the driver.
